Hey friends. Sorry I did not post last night, I was wrapping presents. Which is quite possibly my least favorite thing to do on the planet. I suck at wrapping, and have NO desire to learn how to get better. I don’t understand those people who are all.. “I LOVE WRAPPING! IT’S THE BEST!” I have like twenty of those friends (hi, friends!). I always say I am going to have one of those friends wrap for me, and I will like, buy them lunch or something. I will not pay someone to do something just because I don’t like to do it. This is why I have not hired a cleaning lady. Or a laundry lady. Or a house elf. Or a nanny. I CAN do it. I just don’t WANT to do it…
My wrapping is terrible. I am so glad that my girls are young and do not expect professionally wrapped gifts. Or even ones that appear to be wrapped by an adult with thumbs. Gift bags were invented for people like me. The only problem is, kids don’t like to take things out of gift bags. They like to rip things open, paper mainly, and strew ribbons and paper about. I even like decorated boxes. It’s like gift wrap that’s a part of the gift. LOVE it. Wrapping paper, bows, ribbons…? To that I say Bah Humbug.
That’s not to say I don’t do it, no I do it. We got Caelan’s wrapped last night and will do Ellery’s tonight. Shawn will be in charge of Ellery’s for the most part, because hers are oddly shaped. I can only wrap things that are squares. Or rectangles. Outside of that, it’s Hot Mess Wrapping Day at my house. No thank you. I like presents to be neat, square and perfect. I can handle that. I can’t hang with weird shaped presents..just not my forte.
Wrapping gifts at my own house makes me nervous. I think our present headquarters will move to my parents’ house next year. The girls don’t sleep well, so the whole time I was feverishly wrapping, I was listening to hear Caelan walk out and say, “Hey Mommy! Look! You got a LeapPad!” THAT is nerve-wracking, even for people who like wrapping presents. I think next year, I will try to be that person I am always jealous of, who wraps as she buys (or some close such nonsense to that) and then I won’t have to worry about it. We have plenty of decent hiding spots in this house, I just need to have them wrapped to store until Christmas.
How about you? One of those wrap-a-holics? Hate to wrap? Take it or leave it? Ideas for me to help make gift wrapping less stressful, more fun? Want to do mine next year?
